The Conductor


Pittsburgh Symphony music director designate Manfred Honeck is photographed through a small cutout in a door backstage as he conducts the PSO on Thursday evening, September 6, 2007 at Heinz Hall. The annual Pittsburgh Symphony preview concert is an invitation-only run-through of snippets from upcoming programs. But the Heinz Hall audience got a prelude of the future as Honeck stepped in to conduct Johann Strauss Jr.'s "Voices of Spring Waltz."

I like your use of this "through a hole" technique higher up in the blog. This one ain't horrible, but I try to use that stuff only when it makes sense to.

In 2011, Merriman was honored with the top photography award from the Military Reporters and Editors Assoc. for his work in Iraq & Haiti. Merriman graduated from the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg in 2000 with a degree in English Writing. In 2009, the university awarded him its prestigious Alumnus of Distinction award. Merriman lives in Oakmont with his fiancé, Stephanie Strasburg.
