Justin Merriman is a staff photographer with the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Merriman has covered the events of September 11th 2001 with the crash of Flight 93, the Sago Mine Disaster in West Virginia, and the 2004 & 2008 Presidential elections. He has chronicled life in Fidel Castro’s Cuba, and traveled to India to document the country's efforts to eliminate polio from its population. Unrest and a possible coup in Pakistan after the assassination of Benazir Bhutto took Merriman to Pakistan in early 2008. He then embedded with the US Army in Afghanistan to document the war on terrorism along the country’s border with Pakistan. In 2009, he traveled back to Pakistan to cover the country's efforts to confront terrorism and the cultural unrest within the government. In early 2010, Merriman traveled to Haiti to cover the aftermath of the devastating earthquake. He left immediately after that and traveled to Iraq to continue his coverage of the war on terrorism, and to document the 2010 Parliamentary Elections. Merriman's work has appeared in publications across the country and the globe. His work has been recognized and honored with hundreds of local, regional, and national awards.
